CARTERVILLE – Lady Lions were defeated in a back and forth game against Mater Dei 50-54. The loss moves the Lions to 6-2 on the season.

Mater Dei came out quick in the first quarter, hitting back to back threes and establishing an early 6-0 lead. But Carterville came together later in the first, taking the lead and ending the first quarter 14-8.

Both teams played through the paint in the second quarter, as well as committing multiple fouls. Mater Dei missed multiple free throws leading Carterville to control the score going into the half 25-20.

Coming out of the half both teams were swinging, making the score go back and forth. Mater Dei attacked fromĀ  behind the three point arc, switching up there game plan from the first half. The Lady Lions responded though, netting their fair share of deep shot. Carterville still held onto the lead after 3 quarters of play, 35-33.

Both teams gave it their all in the fourth quarter, both seemed like they couldn’t miss from beyond the arch. The lead went back and forth, with neither team gaining much of an edge over the other. The game came down to the wire, but a few missed shots and a late turnover solidified Mater Dei’s 54-50 win.

Alecia Doyle and Kasha Ward led the Lions with 12 points each on the day. Kirstin Edmonds added a trio of 3-pointers to aid in the effort, and Amayah Doyle reached the double-digit point mark with 10 of her own.

The Lady Lions take the court again at home on December 7, vs. DuQuoin.
