Burke Lange, a senior who played all four years in high school for soccer, was asked a few questions about how his life has changed through the years of soccer and what really got him to love the sport and ultimately to learn what makes the sport of soccer so different and precious compared to every other sport.

Is there a specific time in your life when you realized you were going to continue to play and ultimately fall in love with the sport of soccer?

I would say after my sophomore season, that’s when I really fell in love with the sport because that was my first year starting varsity and I got the opportunity to get so much experience which encouraged me and motivated me to play from there on out because I loved it so much. Like being able to play with teammates like Caleb Knight and Evan Lennox was very inspiring for me.

What’s the biggest thing you’ll miss from playing soccer?

The biggest thing I’ll probably miss is the game experience, there is nothing that can really replicate a true authentic soccer game cause you can always play a pick up and all that but never match the intensity you’ll have through school, so that’s definitely gonna be something that I will miss but I’m happy that I had the chance to play it.

What’s your favorite memory from soccer and why?

My favorite memory would be the Waterloo game, it’s probably the most intense game I’ve played in my four years of high school and it was amazing to get a goal out of it too where I kneed the ball in. It was definitely a crazy moment that I will never forget.

You’ve played multiple sports over your high school career, what would you say is the biggest thing that sets soccer apart from them?

Well first off you use your feet, you don’t do that in any other sport. But in all seriousness soccer is just something you can’t really replicate, the team work, having 11 people on the field at the same time, passing it to each other, using every single person, the different positions. There’s just nothing that can really replicate the feeling of a soccer game, like all the intricate parts of it, like it’s just amazing to me that’s why I love the sport.
