Lions Fall against the Panthers

CARTERVILLE- The Lions suffered a tough loss on Thursday night against the Pinckneyville Panthers. The Lions won the first set but were unable to get on top in the final two, losing the match 2-1 (21-25, 25-23, 25-19). 

Set One

The set started off with a kill from Bella Mavigliano. The Lions started to get behind until a roll shot by Mavigliano tied the score 7-7. In the next volley, Mavigliano got a kill to put the Lions ahead. The score remained close the whole game and was tied three times at 15-15, 18-18, and 20-20. The Lions were able to pull ahead and win 25-21.

Set Two

The second set started off with a block from Ally Lange to make the score 1-0. Carterville was doing well in the beginning and the score was 4-0 before the Panthers had a chance to serve. As soon as the Panthers got a point, Pinckneyville lost their momentum because of a missed serve. The Panthers started to catch up as the Lions began to make errors. The Lions managed to stay ahead until the Panthers tied the score at 19-19. Then the battle to 25 was a tough one for both teams. The Panthers came out on top 25-23. 

Set Three

The Lions did not stay ahead very long as the Panthers used their momentum from the second set to carry on in the third. The Panthers front had our number in the third set and the Lions were unable to make a comeback. At the end of the day, Lion’s effort was not good enough to pull out a win. The Panthers ended up winning the third set 25-19.

 was Carterville’s fourth conference loss bringing them to 4-4 in the conference. Mavigliano had the leading number of kills at 10 and the leading number of assists at 13. Lion’s next game is Thursday, October 21 at CHS against Murphysboro Red Devils for Lion’s Senior Night.
