Espionage

In this year’s halftime performance, The Pride of the Lions takes watchers into the world of your favorite spies. With music from hit movies and artists such as Adele’s “Skyfall” and Jason Bourne, the band leaves you with chills.

The Pride is made up of many students, each gifted in their own ways. Be on the lookout for the flutes, saxophones, trumpets, trombones, mellophones, clarinets, drumline, tuba, and colorguard.

This year, the band started their competition with a second place victory in their section. The color guard and drumline also placed in individual categories. Murphysboro’s Drums at Appletime Competition marked an achievement for the band seeing as they tied with long time competitors Potosi Trojan High School’s Band. The Pride went on to take a third place win at EIU the next weekend, tieing again with other rivals, Mater Dei High School.

When asked about the wins, senior Thomas Jessup said, “A tie is a win in my book. As long as you beat them, which we did.” Thomas has been in the band all four years in the drumline. He plays the bass drum, and this year, the snare. The section leader is very excited about the season to come, but is sad that this is his last year in the Pride.

Returning this year are drum majors Abby Null and Elizabeth Bush. With guidance of this year’s awesome staff and director, Nick Williams, the majors have become very good at their role in the show.

Color Guard this year is taking their strengths to a whole new level. After winning multiple times last season, the guard is bringing everything they have onto the stage and loving every minute of it. With new tosses and a surprise within one of the songs, the guard will leave you breathless in anticipation. The color guard team this year is made up of seven girls, all veterans of the sport.

The band hopes that you will catch a performance and loves your support so if you have the chance, come watch!
