Spring is here! This means the 2018 Carterville Softball season has started! The Lady Lions have three returning seniors this year: Montana Taylor, Sydney Monje and Hanna Schulmeister. All are four year starters for the Lady Lions. Their season began on March 14th at home versus Eldorado. The Lions were able to ten run rule the Eagles after five innings. The Lady Lions went on to play at the Fairfield Tournament, placing third overall out of seven teams. The team’s first away game was at Waltonville on March 22nd and the Lions were able ten run rule yet again, this time over the Spartans, ending with a score of 13-3. Unfortunately, the Lady Lions did not get to play for two weeks due to copious amounts of rain and had to cancel six games. However, conference for the Lions opened on April 2 against Duquoin and the game was able to be played. The team fell to the Indians 5-1. The team went on to play Anna-Jonesboro, Nashville, Pinckneyville and Sparta, each in two games. The Lions are currently 4-5 in the conference with wins over Anna-Jonesboro and Sparta. The team also traveled to West Frankfort on April 21st for a tournament and placed second. Senior night is approaching for the Lady Lions since their last home game is on May 3rd versus West Frankfort. The Lions are hoping to grow and improve as their season continues to get ready for postseason. Make sure to come out and support!
